DeviantART is the world’s premier site for artists and art enthusiasts, boasting a massive community of over 15 million registered members and over 185 million unique works of art. To keep this massive beast growing, our Devious Technology team constantly innovates new technologies to perpetually improve our members’ experiences on the site. Our User Interface team supports this innovation through creative and problem-solving design work that combines simplicity with an inherent knowledge of the deviantART community and how they operate.  The UI team directly interacts with the highest levels of the organization including the management staff, product managers and developers and their work is constantly judged and criticized by a very vocal and opinionated community.  We’re looking to grow the User Interface team, and we’re hoping you’re the one we’re looking for

Applicable candidates are brilliant, are great at quick visual problem-solving in a crunch, work well alone and in a collaborative team environment, and aren’t happy unless they’ve produced the perfect solution to the task at hand. In a nutshell we’re looking for a UI genius and a UX master.  Interested candidates should submit your online portfolios and links to live examples of prior work along with your resumes.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Take directions from UI Director, but be able to make complex decisions independently based on functional requirements
  • Work with product managers to build visual mock ups of new and rejuvenated site features from wireframe models and technical specifications
  • Support live development projects with visual assets and creative needs, including redlines, crib sheets, sandboxes and functional UX models
  • Participate in development meetings to drive product vision
  • Be able to construct clear, guided, conceptual work, demonstrating UX flow and user-case scenarios

Requirements:

 

  • Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, HCI or similar or equivalent work experience.
  • Must show examples of work (preferably usable, functional examples we can click on).
  • Intuitive understanding of best practices in UI and UX design.
  • Must be able to meet tight deadlines with high quality, creative solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Ability to build rapport with both engineers and non-technical managers.
  • Must have working knowledge of HTML, CSS and Javascript/jquery .
  • HTML5 and CSS3 skills extremely desirable.
  • Experience of working with eCommerce a major plus.
  • Experience working for a major internet property or well known startup a major plus
  • Knowledge of social networks and their communities. Experience working for a social networking site is a major plus.
  • Experience with accessibility guidelines and W3C standards a plus
  • Experience in the deviantART community is a plus
