Position:

deviantART is looking to hire a talented software engineer and MySQL expert with strong focus on database operations to join our infrastructure team. This position will be fully responsible for architecture design, development and operations of world-class MySQL tier for very big and high-load systems. To learn more about DT check out our blog!

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the design, development, deployment and ongoing management, troubleshooting, automation and monitoring of core backend database infrastructure that form the foundation of various deviantART applications
  • Participate in the design and coding of tools and processes to manage, monitor and automate very large MySQL clusters
  • Provide all aspects of MySQL administration: configuration, tuning, replication, failover, backup strategy and execution, disaster recovery, online schema updates
  • Work with other developers identifying and eliminating performance bottlenecks
  • Understand design, implementation, configuration and operation of all software components that form a complete end-to-end system
  • Focus on scaling horizontally, work on improvements in systems scalability, performance and reliability

Your Background:

  • MySQL expert, with experience of working with large, high load data stores
  • Capable of working with MySQL source, troubleshooting low level bugs and performance issues, developing patches and integrating patches developed by third parties.
  • Very knowledgeable of best practices in sharding, replication, failover and backups
  • Proficient in SQL and one or more scripting languages: PHP, Shell, Python, Perl, Ruby
  • Knowledge of Linux kernel configuration and filesystems
  • Experience with NoSQL databases, search, log analysis and Mapreduce is a plus
  • Ability to rapidly learn new systems and unfamiliar technologies
